Are Distance Measuring Devices permitted?

Permitted for Qualifying & Championship Proper – All Amateur Championships & U.S. Adaptive Open
Distance measuring devices are permitted, so long as the player uses it to measure distance only, and not to measure anything else not allowed by Rule 4.3a. This applies to both qualifying and the championship Proper.

Permitted for Qualifying ONLY – U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Senior Open, & U.S. Senior Women’s Open
Distance measuring devices are permitted for Qualifying ONLY, so long as the player uses it to measure distance only, and not to measure anything else not allowed by Rule 4.3a. During the championship proper, Model Local Rule G-5 is in effect and prohibits the use of electronic distance-measuring devices.
